Saturday May 31st Evergreen Speedway continues its march towards crowning champions in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Divisions at the Speedway.
The series follows a fantastic Memorial Day Demo Derby/Monster Truck/Fireworks extravaganza, where Evergreen Speedway put on School Bus Boat Races for the first time ever! After track clean up the 3/8’s oval and figure eight track are ready for the competition again. The Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks take on the “track almost too tough to tame” with points leader Naima Lang hoping to continue his winning ways. After winning four out of the first five races he leads defending champion John Zaretzke by just 2 points and third place driver Mike Holden by just 7 points. Rookie James Mugge and Jeff Knight round out the top five.
A familiar driver leads the Pawn X-Change Super Figure Eights. Defending Champion John “The Cowboy” Carlson sits atop the points lead followed by Nick Gunderson, Ricky “The Kid” Deitz, “Bobble Head” Bill Wade and Ryan Gunderson respectively. Carlson has two main event wins and the “60 Minutes of FEAR” title to his credit already this season.
Les Schwab Tires Bombers are having the familiar tight points battle as well with veteran Jim Foti showing the field the way. With a main event win, a second place finish and two heat race victories already this season Foti is showing consistent racing pays off. Defending champion Lane Sundholm, who last year dominated the heat races, has began to hit his stride finishing in the top three the last three weeks racing in the heats.
In the Mini Stock Division former champion Mark Weedin and defending champion Chuck Richards are locked up in a duel followed by a fantastic car count filled with experienced and rookie drivers alike. The resurgence in the division has provided excellent racing for both fans and competitors.
Stinger Eight racing has kept all on the edge of their seats watching the close misses, near hits and intersection drama that the big fields of Stinger Eights have provided. Defending champion Mike Middleton after two wins so far this season leads “The Mighty” Josh Young, “The Wizard” Ben Chandler, Josh Laitila and Seth Funden respectively.
Evergreens new format this season has been a big hit with the fans, running all heats and mains after 7:00pm each race night. It makes for a packed evening of racing entertainment and an exciting way to spend some quality time with your family. Save the gas money and make it to the speedway conveniently located just 22 miles from Seattle at the Fairgrounds in Monroe.
